Why Buy a Boat Kit?

You can buy plans and build a boat from scratch, but here’s why you should buy one of our kits instead.

Convenience

Whether it's your first or fifth build, our boat kits make it an easier and more enjoyable experience. We source the plywood, timber, rigging, sails, and supplies - everything you need to build the boat of your dreams. We also cut all the plywood parts and dimension all the timber, so you can get right to assembling your boat and get out on the water faster.

Quality

Our boat kits feature BS1088 Lloyd's Register Okoume marine plywood - the industry standard - along with select North American and, in the case of our Scruffie Marine kits, Australian timber. All plywood and some timber parts are precision-cut using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) router. This ensures a high degree of accuracy allowing you to assemble your boat more quickly and cleanly. Our CNC-routed rudders and daggerboards are precisely shaped, improving your boat's performance and your enjoyment.

Support

We want your boat build to be an enjoyable, rewarding and, ultimately, successful experience, so we're here to support you every step of the way. Upon delivery, if you find any issues with your kit, we'll resolve them as quickly as possible. Throughout your build, we're available via email and text to answer any questions you may have. After launch, we're happy to help you optimize your rig and provide you with upgrades.

Our Collections

No Coast Boatworks is the exclusive manufacturer of Scruffie Marine Wooden Boats and a US agent for two Storer Boat Plans boats.

Scruffie Marine Wooden Boats

No Coast Boatworks is pleased to announce that we are the new owner and exclusive manufacturer of Scruffie Marine Wooden Boats. Designed by Derek Ellard and manufactured in Australia for over 30 years, the Scruffie range of wooden boats is now made in the US. These designs can only be built from one of our precision-cut kits.

Storer Boat Plans

No Coast Boatworks is pleased to be a US agent for the Oz Goose and Viola 14 designed by Michael Storer. Michael McGlynn, No Coast Boatworks Founder, personally built and sails these boats, so he knows them inside and out. Plans are sold separately by Duckworks Boat Builders Supply and entitle the buyer to build one boat.

About

I’m Michael McGlynn, Founder and Chief Boat Kit Builder here at No Coast Boatworks. I find boatbuilding and sailing deeply satisfying. I just love the idea that I can make something beautiful that will then take me on adventures wherever my heart desires. Even though I’m an architect and a woodworker, when I first started building small sailboats, I found it a bit overwhelming at times. There was a lot to figure out and much to do that was tedious and time-consuming. I enjoyed boatbuilding, but I really wanted to go sailing!

So I started No Coast Boatworks with one goal in mind – to make it easier and more enjoyable for an amateur to build a small sailboat “out back”. First, we source top-quality materials and supplies – providing you with everything you need so you can get right to assembling your boat and get out on the water faster. Next, we CNC-route all plywood and some timber parts ensuring a high degree of accuracy so you can assemble your boat more quickly and cleanly. Finally, we support you every step of the way, from kit delivery to boat launch.

I think you’ll find boatbuilding as rewarding as I do, and we here at No Coast Boatworks will do our best to see that you do!
